Display Case

This sculpture deals with two desires at odds with each other: to be noticed and not to be seen. Using a dress of her own with personal and societal connotations of flamboyancy, Babiak dresses a plaster cast of a body in a familiar position denoting discomfort. Placed in an open box constructed of mirrors and lit with pink faux neon lights, Display Case forces the viewer to become a voyeur to a body that is visibly uncomfortable with being viewed. This piece is best viewed in a dark room.
