I Don’t Feel So Good

I Don’t Feel So Good is a sculpture speaking to Babiak’s struggle with bipolar disorder and the occasional helplessness she feels when she loses that fight. I Don’t Feel So Good was built on the heels of an episode where Babiak felt particularly not in control of her own emotions and actions. While this sculpture may serve as an allegory for depression that can come on its own or as a symptom of the disorder, and she appreciates that many can relate to the imagery and is always glad if her work resonates with anyone for any reason, I Don’t Feel So Good, for Babiak, speaks specifically to the despair of feeling incapable of controlling yourself and your impulses. Hesitant to make work about this aspect of her life due to stigma and the fear of being seen only as her diagnosis, creating this sculpture was a particularly vulnerable process for her.
