Props addresses the coping mechanisms Babiak finds herself using to adapt to the tension she feels surrounding her performance of femininity. The luster glazed and Raku fired high heel, providing its classic symbolism, is quite literally (and precariously) propped up by casted ceramic objects including lighters, nail polish, and pill bottles. Babiak uses simple imagery here to broach the topic of her complicated feelings relating to her own gender identity and expression, as well as the cultural pressures and stigma that come with identifying as a highly feminine woman.
