Wrist Examination

Wrist Examination serves its name as a close look at the skin of an inner wrist. The painting communicates a fascination with skin and its texture as a whole. Using the colors of her own wrist as a palette, the artist pays close attention to the treatment of the paper, wrinkling the medium, using a clear gloss over the image, and sewing directly into the paper, to go beyond classic paint and make a viscerally textured piece. As one of the earliest pieces in this portfolio, it serves as a precursor to many of the themes more thoroughly explored later on.
